Dairy Free London Fog, Starbucks

A traditional London fog is one of my favorite hot drinks. This version tastes very much like the Starbucks London Fog Tea Latte. I have been learning so much about how to make the perfect tea latte without any fancy tools.

  • Quart Sized Mason Jar
  • MIcrowave or Stove
  • Large Mug
  • Measuring cups and spoons



  • 1-2 earl grey tea bags
  • ¾ cup of boiling water

Add to jar or small sauce pan:

  • 1 1/4 cup oat or coconut milk
  • 1 TBSP honey or brown sugar*
  • Pinch of salt

Add in:

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla


  • Place tea bag in the large mug you will drink your latte in. Pour hot water into the mug and steep the tea bag for 3-5 minutes.

Heating the Milk

  • Microwave: While the tea is steeping, add the milk, sweetener and salt into a mason jar. Microwave the milk for about 1 minute 30 seconds (without the lid).
    Stovetop: Or place the ingredients in a small suace pan and heat on the stove until just steaming then pour into your glass jar.

Frothing the Milk

  • Make sure the lid is closed tightly and using a tea towel to hold the jar, shake vigorously for 30 seconds.

Making the Latte

  • Add the vanilla extract to the steeped tea and then pour in your frothed milk. I like to scrape out the jar to make sure I get all the foam. You can use a spoon to hold back the foam while pouring the milk and then spoon on at the end.


*I use 1 TBSP of honey because I like to use natural sweetener in my drinks. Brown sugar is a great choice as well because it has a light flavour of its own. Also I find that 1 TBSP of honey makes this drink just sweet enough for my taste. If you like a sweeter drink, use 1 ½ TBSP and see what you think.
It’s good to note that the 16 oz Starbucks version probably has more like 2 TBSP vanilla syrup (1 pump = ½ TBSP). So if you want a more authentic home Starbucks drink add a bit more sugar!
