The recipe shows you how to make homemade vanilla simple syrup without a vanilla bean! You only need 3 ingredients to make a simple syrup that is similar to Starbucks or any other coffee shop.

It makes a great addition to your morning coffee or homemade lattes. I also like to use it in cocktails and tea lattes.
I like to avoid added preservatives in my food as much as possible. So making my own vanilla simple syrup recipe for my coffee allows me to do that! Of course there’s still sugar but you can’t win em all right?
How To Make Simple Vanilla Syrup At Home
The ratio to make simple syrup is 1:1 parts sugar to water. All we need to do is cook the sugar and water until they form a thin syrup, and then add stir in some vanilla extract. If you want a thicker syrup, you can try 2 parts sugar to 1 part water. Or simply cook it a bit longer to get rid of more moisture. Either way this recipe turns out nicely.
Step 1: Using your favourite saucepan and add in your water and sugar.

Step 2: Heat over medium high heat, stir until the sugar is dissolved and bring to boil for about 1 minute. Turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 6 minutes.

Step 3: When the syrup is finished it will be clear have a very light hue to it. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

How To Store
I store mine in an airtight glass container in the fridge for up to 2 months. Since it is just sugar and water it lasts for a long time.

Notes
What is in Starbucks Vanilla Syrup?
When you read the ingredients listed for the Starbucks Vanilla Syrup, you will see: “Water, Sugar, Natural Flavors, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid”.
I have noticed that most of the syrups I can purchase, or that are served in coffee shops, contain preservatives. Whereas a homemade recipe generally does not. It’s one of the reasons I love making most of my food at home. It’s so nice to know what ingredients are in my food.
Looks great! Can’t wait to try it! Joey’s been asking about how to make a vanilla syrup for a while now.
Thank-you! It’s pretty easy to do and switch up if you want to add a different flavour 🙂
