Chocolate Banana Swirl, Dairy Free & Refined Sugar Free

This is a healthy dairy free shake.

Ingredients

  • 1 chopped banana frozen
  • 1 heaping tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1-2 tbsp honey I find it’s sweet enough with 1
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • ¾-1 cup sugar free almond/coconut blend milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Place the frozen banana in the blender and add the rest of the ingredients. Blend until smooth. I only add just enough milk to cover the bananas. That way it maintains a silky thick texture. Using any type of coconut or almond milk would work well with this recipe. I prefer dairy free milks that contain coconut. I find it provides a rich creamy component.

If you want to make this more like a creamy milkshake, add one to two tablespoons of canned coconut cream.

Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Swirl

This is one of my favorite easy dairy free recipes, because it’s healthy, kid friendly and it tastes like a banana milkshake. It’s a fun afternoon treat! It’s been warming up outside! And that is a perfect reason to try out this frozen non-dairy drink . I make a lot of food from scratch. After my husband and I were married, my stepson was seeing all the different foods I could “homemake”. He was curious to see all the things we could make at home.

how and why it was named

Which is why this shake is called a Chocolate “Banana Swirl”. One day my stepson randomly asked me if I knew how to make a banana swirl. He didn’t really know what a banana swirl was and neither did I. I’m sure he just made it up on the spot. He spoke with all the confidence of a child. It was so cute and he was so excited to try a drink that he invented. So I froze some bananas, blended them up with heavy whipping cream, milk, cocoa powder and some honey. He loved it and still asks for it quite often. Since I don’t drink dairy I made myself a dairy free version.   is made with chia seeds. It’s pretty much a chocolate banana milkshake with no refined sugar and is dairy free. It’s very healthy and oh so delicious. I love snacks like this since they offer taste and nutrition to hungry little ones (and hungry Linda’s). 

I love my Califa Farms almond/coconut milks and  creamers. The one I normally I find them to be the most creamy dairy free option out there. Anyways I hope you enjoy our little smoothie endeavor!
